How to Save Money on Car Repairs
By Donovan Baldwin
I used to be a truck driver, truck driving instructor, and an owner/operator of a big rig. I was also in the Army for 21 years, and in both areas, I learned an important technique which has been around a long time to save lots of money for huge organizations. The good news is that the same method can be used by anyone who owns a car, truck, motorcycle, RV, or any other type of vehicle.
These organizations use a preventive maintenance program to save them money on costly...really costly...vehicle repairs.
If you want to know how to save money on car repairs, just follow their lead.
All a preventive maintenance program is is the regular check of such things as condition and tightness of belts, condition of hoses, condition and pressure of tires, air and oil filters, and so on. One very important part of any such plan is regular oil changes.
A preventive maintenance program, which actually is probably outlined in your owner's manual, can keep your car running at near peak efficiency for years. Failure to check these items and repair or replace them at that time can result in very costly repairs at a later date.
For example, a simple oversight such as the failure to change your oil regularly can result in your needing to replace an entire engine! For a few minutes of your time every few months and few dollars out of pocket, you can save possible repairs costing thousands of dollars later!
As I pointed out, setting up a preventive maintenance program is easy as most of the info you need is in your owner's manual. If you do not have the owner's manual for your car or truck, it is easy to find the information you need online or at your local library. The actual points are easy. In fact, I pointed out most of them above.
By the way, although it might not result in repair costs, check headlights, tail lights, and turn signals regularly as well. This is not only for your safety and the safety of others, but it could prevent an accident or keep you from getting an expensive ticket.
How to save money on car repairs?
Simple. Stop the repair before it ever becomes needed.
