Changing the wiper blades on your car is one of those little activities that look harder than it really is. Start off by planning to change your wiper blades on a sunny day. Don't head out when gray clouds are passing over or you will likely get caught in the rain. If you know they need to be changed, it just makes sense not to wait until you need them to do it. Being stuck on the side of the road or late when you have somewhere important to be is not worth putting it off.
Pull the windshield wiper so that it stands straight out away from the windshield. Look at it closely until you find the little tab that when depressed, releases the wiper. Be careful but don't be afraid of wrecking it. Those wipers take quite a beating from the weather at times.
Pinpoint the small tab and then press it. The entire wiper should be released now so that you can easily pull it right out. Be careful when you do this so that nothing comes into contact with the windshield glass. That could result in a scratch or even a crack. Once the rubber wiper is off, it will be metal underneath. Keep the wiper arm standing upright.
If you need to walk away from the car or attend to something else, carefully lay the wiper arm down against the glass so that it will not become knocked down. When you are ready, examine the new wiper to determine which end slides on first. It should be apparent. Be careful to line it up properly.
Slide the new wiper along the metal arm until you reach the end. You should be able to click it in easily where the tab is. If it doesn't work you may have it backwards and should double check how you are putting the wiper on. The wiper blade packaging may have photos showing which end to put on first so check that if you are not sure you're doing it right.
When you get the wiper blade clicked back in with the tab, give it a wiggle to make certain that it is on tight. The last thing you need is for that thing to go flying off in traffic somewhere while you're driving. When it's on tight, then you know that is had been done correctly.
